At Upper Valley Christian School, we believe that parent and community involvement is essential to creating a vibrant and supportive learning environment for our students. To help us provide the best possible experience for our children, it is required that each family contribute a minimum of 15 volunteer hours per school semester.

These hours can be fulfilled in a variety of ways, including:

  • As the Volunteer Coordinator for the PTO, you’re the go-to person for connecting parents with ways to help out at school. You’ll:

    • Recruit volunteers for events, fundraisers, and classroom activities

    • Match parents’ skills and availability to the right volunteer opportunities

    • Keep track of volunteer hours and make sure everyone knows when and where help is needed

    • Communicate with volunteers, answering questions and sending reminders

    • Make sure volunteers have the support they need to do their tasks

    You’ll help build a strong team of parents who are excited to get involved and support the school!

  • As a member of the Hot Lunch Committee, you help make sure students get their hot lunches every Monday. You might:

    • Help serve lunch to students.

    • Set up or clean up the lunch area.

    • Assist with handing out utensils, napkins, or condiments.

    • Make sure everything runs smoothly and safely during lunchtime.

    It’s a fun way to be part of the school day and see the kids while helping out!

  • To be able to fill in for short periods of time. shredding, copying, laminating, filing, cutting

    • Answer Phones – Take messages or direct calls to the right person.

    • Greet Visitors – Welcome parents, students, and guests.

    • File Papers – Organize student records and documents.

    • Make Copies – Help teachers or staff by copying worksheets or letters.

    • Deliver Messages – Take notes or items to classrooms.

    • Shredding

    • Fill in for Recess Duty

  • As a Room Parent, you’re the main helper for your child’s teacher and a link between the classroom and the PTO. You’ll:

    • Help organize class parties and seasonal activities.

    • Coordinate with other parents to send in supplies, snacks, donations, or to be a field trip chaperone.

    • Help with teacher appreciation efforts (like gifts or special notes).

    • Share PTO info with your class parents (like event reminders or volunteer needs).

    • Decorate outside of classroom doors seasonally or find classroom parents to decorate.

    • Support the teacher by offering help when needed (like organizing folders or helping during special projects).

    It’s a great way to be involved in your child’s classroom and help build a strong school community!

  • As a Helping Hands volunteer, you jump in wherever extra help is needed! You might:

    • Help set up or clean up for school or PTO events

    • Pass out flyers or reminders to students or families

    • Organize supplies or donations

    • Assist with small tasks for teachers or the PTO (like sorting papers, making copies, or decorating)

    • Be available as an extra set of hands when something pops up

    It’s a flexible way to help the school—no big time commitment, just a willingness to lend a hand when you can!

  • As a member of the Fundraising Committee, you help raise money to support school programs, events, supplies, and teacher needs. This means:

    • Helping plan and run fundraisers like bake sales, book fairs, fun runs, or auctions

    • Coming up with new ideas for how the PTO can raise money

    • Reaching out to local businesses for donations or sponsorships

    • Promoting fundraisers through flyers, email, or social media

    • Working with other parents to organize and collect items, set up events, and track results

    You don’t need any fundraising experience—just a willingness to help and be part of a team that supports the school in a big way!

  • As a member of the Events Committee, you help plan and run fun school events for students, families, and staff. This includes:

    • Helping plan events like family nights, school dances, holiday parties, or teacher appreciation days

    • Setting up and decorating before the event

    • Helping during the event with things like greeting guests, serving food, or running games

    • Cleaning up afterward

    • Sharing ideas to make events fun and memorable

    • Working as a team with other parents and volunteers

    You don’t need event planning experience—just a willingness to help make school events great!

  • Join us for one of our biggest fundraising events when we open our parking lot up for paid parking on holiday or busy weekends.

    Parking Lot Operations:

    • Open and close the parking lot during designated event weekends and holidays.

    • Set up signage, cones, barriers, and payment collection station as needed.

    • Direct traffic to ensure efficient and organized parking.

  • As a member of the Communications Committee, you help share information with parents and keep the school community updated. You’ll:

    • Help write or design flyers, emails, or newsletters

    • Post updates on social media

    • Share reminders about events, fundraisers, or volunteer opportunities

    • Make sure parents know how to get involved and stay informed

    • Work with PTO leaders to get the right info out at the right time

    It’s a great way to help from home, especially if you enjoy writing, organizing, or using digital tools!

  • A Grandma’s Club Volunteer is a valued member of the school community who offers warmth, guidance, and helping hands in support of students and staff. Members of the Grandma’s Club serve as honorary grandmothers, bringing a nurturing presence to school life while assisting with classroom, library, events, and community activities.

    Student Support:

    • Read to or with students, especially in early grades.

    • Help supervise during lunch, recess, or transitions as needed.

    Classroom Assistance:

    • Prepare classroom materials, assist with simple crafts or projects.

    • Support teachers by helping keep students on task in a friendly, non-disciplinary way.

    • Help organize or distribute snacks, supplies, or learning materials.

    Library and Office Help (as needed):

    • Shelve books or read to children in the library.

    • Help with light office tasks such as folding newsletters or assembling packets.
